P3E - Gameplay


Many reviews say that the gameplay is outstanding and a Metacritic review says that the gameplay follows one character and is played from a 3rd person view. It is also a point and click adventure and so the gameplay is very intensive and focused on the player and the way that they interact with the story. Also stated is that the gameplay is gripping and unexpected leaving the player stuck between tough decisions based on the characters life and story.

Another reviewer, GameGrin, says how the gameplay is compelling and says that the most important aspect of the game is how it plays in comparison with the story as there is no point having a brilliant story without good quality gameplay. It also meansons that way the game is easy to play and anybody can pick up and play. This really helps the story and means that the gameplay is simple but interesting and fun for anybody who fancies playing the game. It also commented on the good art style of the game and how the game was designed which includes many advanced features and alot of work ahs been put into making the game look very complex.

Daz Games says that the game focuses very heavily on the one main character and her surrounding characters. The main character in the story is Fran and she comes into contact with many different monsters and demons along her way. He also says that he loves the way the game follows the one character on her travels and really knuckles down on the problems faced with some of today’s life. He gives the game a 9/10 for the character work saying that the player can actually become emotionally attached to the character that they are playing as.


One Metacritic says that the game is heavily focused on the one main character and makes the player the centre of the characters life. The story and character are both very heavy on the gameplay and the player becomes one with the character they are playing. They also mentions the strong link between characters in the game and the way that they interact with the main character and the player.

P3C - Narrative/Storyline

 There are many different reviews on the storyline of Fran Bow as the storyline focuses on many problems with children and mental health issues. The YouTuber Daz Games has said that it was the most disturbing game he has ever played due to the issues that the game is portraying. Other reviews state that the game is very interesting and has a very unique story to the theme.

 A Metacritic review states that Fran Bow is a creepy adventure game that tells the story of Fran, a young girl struggling with a mental disorder and an unfair destiny. They also says that it is disturbing yet adorable, full of violence but at the same time tender. This refers to the narrative and the story in which the player plays as the young child. Also mentioned is the compelling story and how the story turns depressing very quickly but at the same time is very compelling and entertaining. They say that the story may seems confusing towards the end of the game and can seem quite confusing throughout as the game requires the player to find out clues as they progress.

Daz games says that the game is not aimed at any specific gender but aimed at more mature audiences and certainly not children. He says that the games style keeps it very gender neutral and the added situations that some may find very sensitive. He also says that the game is only for those who can take it seriously as it is a very controversial subject that many people do not fully understand.


A review from Metacritic says that the game is likewise gender neutral with the emphasis on older teens to young adults. They also state that some players may find some of the scenes upsetting and that the game should be played with care. It is also mentioned that the subject is very open for discussion between the community and will undoubtedly divide certain parts of the community but once this is overlooked the game plays out in a very serious and rather depressing but true manner.

P3A – Genre


Daz games says that the genre of Fran Bow is an Adventure horror and says that it is one of the most disturbing games he has ever played in a good way. He plays through the game saying that the art style is very unique and that it concentrates on controversial issues within society. It falls under the horror category due to some “horrific” scenes which can easily turn someone away who doesn’t have the guts. He says that it is also a fascinating game that explores many different locations and levels which all tie in perfectly to the main story itself.


One review on Metacritic say that the game is a horror action adventure that can be very violent and disturbing at times. They state more on how the developers considered every possible outcome from each situation and worked on making the game unique and original. They also comment that the horror side is not for the faint hearted and that some of the situations and topics that the game focuses on can be quite sensitive to some at times.
